The game is really nicely done, but unfortunately the instructions are not. It takes a long time to understand the rules and set everything up. In the end, the gameplay is not hard at all, but is just weirdly explained.
Stand alone game, some gameplay improvements that are better than the original base set (have not played original expansions for original set) and the pacing is a bit easier to identify. There are ‘more steps’ to accomplishing your goal, but these steps are a bit more linear. The ship is also ‘more narrow’ which again helps assist with pacing, but also has people leapfrogging over each other to achieve their objectives and exit. The bounty hunter and hyperlift shut-down mechanics are a welcome complication. There is also a Renegade App for Clank and Clank! In! Space!, but I’ve not used it. It adds another layer to the game, but does not necessarily enhance it which is why I do not use it. In my opinon, it’s another thing to manage which makes it more of a hassle without adding much value.I recommend this game for both people whom have never played Clank!, as well as people considering this game after owning or playing the original Clank! It’s different enough to be different, but familiar enough that old players will be comfortable and still be able to adapt the to slight change in game mechanics.
